In our experience even when the drawings are correct, that does not prevent things from being built wrong in the field. Problems come up, things have to be adjusted on site quickly and that means unforeseen accessibility problems that most people aren’t even thinking about. MAPS understands that our role as an accessibility consultant is to not be an advocate, but to be an asset. We work with you to ensure the project meets the code requirements and minimizes any future legal risks.
We have the ability to work in every state across the United States, we perform all our accessibility site reviews to the applicable city, state, and federal ADA accessibility codes. After our time on site we issue a detailed report documenting any accessibility issues we have found. In the report we will tell you what’s an issue, what’s the code requirement, and whenever possible we provide recommendations for ways to easily address the issue.
No matter the size of the project from million square foot highrises to tiny studio apartments to multi-acre campgrounds we at MAPS have experience working on a wide range of publicly and privately funded projects handling both new and existing construction; ranging from hotels, offices, retail, institutional, and residential multifamily.
We use this experience to tailor accessibility site visits to the needs of our clients and the type of project being undertaken, for example on residential projects we will recommend a minimum of three site visits phased to see the different stages of construction, starting at rough framing and ending with final finishes.
With the first site visit we would typically be out when the building has been rough framed and grab bar reinforcing installed, electrical boxes tacked up, and rough plumbing installed, in order to see unit layouts before drywall gets installed.
